5 Myths About Eyelash Extensions

Getting eyelash extensions seems like a great idea, but we all have that connection–that friend of your sister’s friend’s cousin’s co-worker who heard about a girl who had that bad experience. Rumors abound when it comes to eyelash extensions, so we’re here to bust these top 5 myths about eyelash extensions:

Myth 1: You will lose all your eyelashes

Let’s start here by pointing out that you are already losing eyelashes naturally, about every 3-4 weeks (what we call your cycle). The difference with extensions is that it can be more noticeable to see yourself losing natural eyelashes when they are falling onto long synthetic fibers.

Myth 2: Your eyelashes never grow back

Here’s the thing. If your eyelashes were never going to grow back, then we wouldn’t have a reason to offer a “fill” session, which requires natural lashes to complete. Eye lashes grow back, just like hair, and with extensions you can choose to have your lashes filled in after your natural lashes fall out for continued coverage, or you can go back to normal.

Myth 3: Eyelash extensions can make you go blind

We’re not sure where this one came from, but it is absolutely false. In some cases of allergies, people may end up having an allergic reaction to the adhesive, resulting in needing to get special eye drops from a doctor. If you are prone to allergies, be sure to check ahead of time to see what is in the adhesive being used. We also highly recommend that you always consider a licensed, professional technician to do your lashes, such as at A Touch of Lash, to make sure that only the best adhesive is being used that doesn’t contain harmful ingredients.

Myth 4: Getting extensions will take up your whole day

Like anything, having someone new or recently trained to perform your eyelash extensions might take longer than normal, which is probably how this rumor started. When you’re working with someone who is experienced in the art of eyelash extension, though, expect to be in and out within an hour or two. Fills take up to an hour to an hour and a half depending on the stage of your cycle at the time of fill.

Myth 5: Your natural lashes will become thin and/or lighter in color after having extensions

What really happens here is that people who have grown used to seeing themselves with long, dark lashes for 3 weeks forget what they used to look like. Hence, they start telling people that their eyelash extensions transformed their natural lashes. In reality, it’s just an adjustment thing, so expect it to take a few days to get back to seeing your natural lashes if you decide not to get your extensions filled.

We hope this has debunked common myths that you have heard about eyelash extensions. Be sure to get your eyelash extensions done from licensed professionals who know how to put in extensions safely. To find out more about lash extensions, or to set up an appointment, contact us.
